“I Had Suicidal Thoughts”: Yuzvendra Chahal Breaks Silence on Divorce Saga

adminBy adminAugust 1, 20252 Mins Read

India’s star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has finally opened up about the emotional turmoil he endured during his much-publicized divorce from choreographer Dhanashree Verma. In a candid and heartfelt interview, Chahal revealed that the phase was so mentally draining that he battled suicidal thoughts at one point.

The cricketer, known for his cheerful demeanor on and off the field, said the ordeal was far from what the public perceived on social media. “People see the Instagram posts, the smiles in public appearances. But behind closed doors, I was breaking down. I had suicidal thoughts. It was a dark time,” Chahal confessed.

Chahal and Dhanashree tied the knot in December 2020, and the couple frequently shared romantic moments online. However, rumors of trouble started surfacing in 2022, culminating in their separation earlier this year. While both parties chose to remain silent initially, speculation on social media turned rampant, often unfairly targeting both Chahal and Dhanashree with hateful comments and assumptions.

Addressing those speculations, Chahal said, “There’s a limit to what one can take. I stayed silent not because I was weak, but because I didn’t want things to get uglier. But people created their own narratives. It affected my mental health deeply.”

The 34-year-old credits his recovery to his family, close friends, and therapy. “I decided to take professional help, and it changed everything. Talking to a therapist helped me understand that pain is temporary, but life is precious.”

Chahal’s statement has sparked a larger conversation around mental health in Indian cricket, an issue often brushed under the rug. Several fans and fellow cricketers have come out in support of him, applauding his courage for speaking out.

As he prepares for upcoming cricket commitments, Chahal says he’s focusing on healing and finding happiness again. “This isn’t the end. I’m still standing, and that’s what matters.”

His vulnerability and honesty are being hailed as a powerful reminder that even the most cheerful faces can hide the deepest pain—and that seeking help is not weakness, but strength.
