Anurag Kashyap Apologises to Brahmin Community: “Forgot Dignity Due to Anger”

adminBy adminApril 22, 20252 Mins Read

Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has issued a public apology to the Brahmin community following recent backlash over comments he made during a heated exchange on social media. In a candid statement shared on Monday, Kashyap acknowledged that his words were spoken in anger and admitted that he “forgot the dignity” expected of someone in his position.

The controversy erupted when the Gangs of Wasseypur director responded to a social media post criticizing his views on caste and politics. His response, perceived by many as offensive towards the Brahmin community, triggered a wave of outrage online. Hashtags demanding an apology began trending, with several community leaders and netizens urging him to reflect on the impact of his words.

In his official statement, Kashyap wrote:

“In the heat of the moment, I let my frustration get the better of me and said things I should not have. I deeply regret hurting the sentiments of the Brahmin community. I forgot my dignity in anger, and I take full responsibility for that. I offer a heartfelt apology.”

Kashyap, known for his fearless storytelling and outspoken opinions, further clarified that his intention was never to target any community, but rather to highlight systemic issues he’s long been vocal about.

“I’ve always stood against oppression in every form, but it’s never okay to generalize or hurt people based on identity. My fight is against injustice, not against any community,” he added.

The apology has drawn mixed reactions. While some applauded Kashyap for taking accountability, others felt it came too late. A few prominent figures from the Brahmin community have accepted the apology and called for the conversation to now move toward healing and mutual respect.

Anurag Kashyap’s statement highlights the delicate balance public figures must maintain in an era where words, especially on social media, can have far-reaching consequences. As discussions about caste, identity, and privilege continue to evolve in India, this episode serves as a reminder of the power of dialogue — and the importance of empathy in public discourse.
