ENG vs IND: England Add All-Rounder to Squad for Oval Test Against India

adminBy adminJuly 28, 20252 Mins Read

In a strategic move ahead of the final Test against India at The Oval, the England cricket team has added uncapped all-rounder Josh Hull to their squad. With the five-match series level at 2-2, the inclusion aims to bolster England’s bowling options and add depth to the lower order batting.

The 23-year-old left-arm pace-bowling all-rounder from Leicestershire has impressed in the County Championship this season, claiming 31 wickets and scoring two fifties in just seven matches. His recent performance against Surrey at the same Oval ground—where he took 6/41 and scored a crucial 47—reportedly caught the attention of the selectors.

“Josh has shown real promise with both bat and ball,” England head coach Brendon McCullum said. “His ability to swing the ball and contribute with the bat makes him a valuable asset in a hard-fought series like this.”

England’s move comes as veteran seamer James Anderson continues to be monitored for workload management. All-rounder Chris Woakes also complained of slight stiffness after the Trent Bridge Test, prompting the need for an additional seam option.

Meanwhile, India has also hinted at rotating its pace battery for the final Test, with Jasprit Bumrah possibly returning after being rested in Nottingham. The Oval Test, starting August 1, will act as a series decider and is expected to draw massive crowds.

Hull’s addition signals England’s intent to go for the win on a pitch that traditionally supports seam movement early on before easing out for batters. If picked in the playing XI, Josh Hull could make a memorable debut in what’s shaping up to be a thrilling finale.

England Squad for the 5th Test at The Oval: Ben Stokes (capt), Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, James Anderson, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Tom Hartley, Josh Hull (added), and Josh Tongue.
