Mohammed Siraj Has Heart of a Lion: McCullum in Awe of India’s Fighting Spirit

In a thrilling Test battle that has gripped cricket fans across the globe, India’s tenacity on the field has once again earned admiration — this time from England head coach Brendon McCullum, who reserved special praise for pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj. Calling him a player with the “heart of a lion,” McCullum lauded the Indian team’s fierce competitive spirit that has kept them alive in the series.

Siraj, known for his passion and aggressive bowling style, produced a fiery spell that turned the tide in India’s favour at a crucial juncture of the game. The right-arm pacer has consistently delivered under pressure, and McCullum acknowledged his relentless intensity and hunger to win. “Siraj doesn’t back down. He’s got the heart of a lion. Even when things looked tough, he kept charging in,” McCullum said during the post-day press interaction.

The comment comes as a broader compliment to the Indian team’s never-say-die attitude — a quality that has made them formidable opponents on foreign soil. Despite missing some of their senior stars and playing in challenging English conditions, the Indian side has fought tooth and nail to stay competitive. Young talents have stepped up, and the bowling unit, led by Siraj, has shown immense grit.

McCullum, a former New Zealand captain known for his own aggressive style, appreciated how India has kept the series alive. “You can never count India out. They play with pride and passion, and that’s exactly what makes them so dangerous. It’s great for Test cricket.”

As the series heads into its final phase, all eyes will remain on Siraj and the Indian bowlers to continue their charge. One thing is clear: with warriors like Siraj on their side, Team India’s fighting spirit is burning brighter than ever.
