Don’t Judge the Past: Suniel Shetty Has Aamir Khan’s Back Amid Sitaare Zameen Par Row

adminBy adminMay 24, 20253 Mins Read

In the face of mounting criticism surrounding Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, veteran actor Suniel Shetty has stepped forward in support of his longtime colleague, urging fans and detractors alike not to judge Khan based on past controversies.

The film, touted as a spiritual sequel to the emotionally resonant Taare Zameen Par (2007), has found itself in the spotlight for reasons beyond cinema. While excitement for the release is high, a section of the public has reignited past debates surrounding Aamir Khan’s political statements and social commentary, sparking fresh waves of online backlash.

Speaking at a recent event in Mumbai, Suniel Shetty addressed the controversy head-on. “We all evolve with time,” he said. “Aamir is one of the most dedicated and sensitive artists this country has. Whatever happened in the past, we must allow space for growth and not hold one’s history against their present work.”

The Hera Pheri actor emphasized that cinema should be viewed in the context of its message and not colored by political or personal biases. “Sitaare Zameen Par is a film about acceptance, joy, and celebrating differences. Why taint that with negativity from the past? Let the work speak,” Shetty added.

Aamir Khan, who is both producing and starring in the film, has kept a relatively low profile during the controversy, focusing on post-production and promotional planning. In a rare statement last week, he said, “My only hope is that Sitaare Zameen Par touches hearts. That’s all I ever want my films to do.”

Shetty’s support comes at a critical time, as many within the industry remain silent on the backlash. His words reflect a broader sentiment shared among actors who believe in the importance of separating an artist’s past statements from their creative work.

Meanwhile, Sitaare Zameen Par, which features a fresh cast of child actors alongside Khan, is set for release later this year. It explores themes of inclusion, self-belief, and the challenges faced by neurodivergent children in the Indian education system—a subject that echoes the powerful storytelling of its predecessor.

In a time when celebrity voices are often met with polarizing reactions, Suniel Shetty’s balanced stance reminds audiences of a fading yet vital value in the entertainment industry: empathy.

As anticipation builds for the film’s release, one can only hope that the conversation shifts back to where it belongs—on the story, the performances, and the universal message of hope that Sitaare Zameen Par aims to deliver.
