Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner, best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has opened up about his harrowing near-death experience following a snowplow accident in January 2023. In a recent interview, Renner described the incident not just as a physical trauma, but also as a profound and almost “exhilarating” spiritual event — one so powerful that he briefly didn’t want to return.

Renner was critically injured while trying to save his nephew from a runaway 14,000-pound snowplow outside his home in Reno, Nevada. The machine crushed more than 30 bones in his body, resulting in blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. He spent weeks in intensive care, underwent multiple surgeries, and has been on a remarkable journey of recovery ever since.
Reflecting on the moment he hovered between life and death, Renner shared, “I had one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life — not painful, not scary — just pure surrender. And in that surrender, I didn’t want to come back.”
He described a sense of peace and detachment during those moments when his heart nearly stopped. “It felt like I had left my body. Everything was calm, beautiful. I wasn’t thinking about pain or fear. I was thinking, ‘Is this it? Because this feels… okay.’”
However, what brought him back, he says, was love — the love of his family, especially his 10-year-old daughter Ava. “The only thing stronger than the feeling of leaving was the pull to return. I wasn’t done here. She needs her dad.”

Since the accident, Renner has embraced life with renewed gratitude. Despite enduring an arduous recovery, including relearning how to walk, the actor has remained optimistic and has made several public appearances, always with a resilient spirit and a smile.
“I don’t regret what happened,” he says. “It stripped away all the noise. What’s left is only what matters — family, purpose, and love.”
Renner has also returned to work, recently wrapping up Season 3 of his Paramount+ crime series Mayor of Kingstown. His comeback is a testament to his extraordinary strength — not just physical, but emotional and spiritual.
Fans and colleagues across Hollywood have lauded his courage, calling him a real-life superhero. But Renner remains humble. “I’m not a hero. I’m just grateful I got another chance — and I’m not wasting it.”
Jeremy Renner’s story continues to inspire millions as a reminder of the fragility of life, the power of love, and the triumph of the human spirit.
